Dear Friends and Customers

I have decided to stop taking new orders.

In the late 70s I crafted my first mandolin, more out of necessity than anything. I was just learning to play, and realized I needed a better instrument. So, I built one!

It would be another 10 years before I really got into luthiery. Once retired, though, I began to spend more and more time in my shop.

For me, when it came to building, the journey was every bit as enjoyable as the destination. I savoured the process of shaping and building each mandolin to release its unique sound.

I found that the more I handled a piece of wood, the more I could feel its properties, its potential and its promise. I could hear its voice and make fine adjustments.

I wanted my instruments to be accessible to musicians. After all, the music is what really matters-not the instrument. It takes the skill and the soul of the musician to bring the music to life.

So many of you have been generous in your praise and encouragement over the years. It has always meant everything to me to know through the creation of Muth Mandolins, I can be proud to have played a part in our shared creative process.
